The amphora, found in the upper archaeological layers of the Genna Maria nuraghe, was used to store oil or wine. Dating back to the 7th-8th century AD, it bears witness to the frequentation of the nuraghe, now abandoned, during the Byzantine era. It is likely that there was a military garrison keeping an eye on the fertile valleys below and tasked with warding off the raids of marauders from the nearby mountainous areas.
